6 Common Mistakes in Your Resume

Towards the end of the year, I believe that many of us will start updating resume and scrolling job search websites to hunt for a new job opportunities. The problem is, many of us are not aware as if there are any mistakes in our resume which may cause rejection from Recruiters.

#1 Unfocused Contents
There is nothing wrong if you write a comprehensive resume. But then, many of us are forgot to highlight points of your employment history, accomplishment or any important points in your resume. Recruiters normally will screen a lot of resumes daily and mostly they do it really quick (Say about 3 - 6 second for each resume). So, be focus and highlight on your resume content will help them to get "your points".

#2 Spelling & Grammar Error
You need a fresh pair of eyes to proofread your resume. You can ask someone else to proofread your resume, particularly on the spelling & grammatically errors. No matter you think that you are good, asking someone else to review your resume will reveal errors which you may not have caught. Resume perfection is very important and writing a good resume is one of the fundamental skills in hunting a new job.

#3 Generalized your Resume
This is one of the most common mistake done by our graduates. One resume is for all position and all companies. This is really a wrong practice. You need to cater your resume according to the position that you wanted to apply. Show to your employer that you had spend time and effort to prepare a good resume for their review.

#4 Too Many Pages
For some positions, you need to prepare a compact & solid resume according to the job that you are applying. "Cut short your resume content". You may highlight more on the employment history which is related to the job that you are applying and less comprehend for any non-related position.

#5 Complicated Design
If you resume consisted of various fonts, borders, colours and designs, you might need to revise it. Make your resume short & simple. It is the best if you can minimal the usage of font and design in order to show your professionalism thru your resume.

#6 Weak Resume Objective
Generalized resume objective is the worst way to start your resume. You need to present the your strong mission or objective in order to show to your employer that you are serious in applying the job. You also need to avoid from using unprofessional email address written on your resume too.

In short, you need to follow a proper resume format by including all related information and be sure there are no mistakes.
